Jim’s Hundredth Lead
You would have thought that after leading 99 walks he would have been able to deliver a walk on the afternoon of his hundredth that was the distance in the programme. Unfortunately, on a warm afternoon, a four miles became a six, although there were serious allegations of seven.
The morning of 2 August had gone very well. About 36 members turned out to celebrate Jim’s milestone and they enjoyed a lovely walk from “The Bell” at Woodham Walter and a good lunch at the pub. Jill then did her chairing bit, found all sorts of unlikely good things to say about Jim, and presented him with a framed certificate marking his achievement. She then produced a lovely trophy made by George Prince, representing a fence, stile and fingerpost.
Some sensible people dropped out for the afternoon circuit, leaving the remainder to enjoy/endure what was a much more interesting alternative to the original route initially planned.
ps. Jill is not far behind Jim and we should be celebrating her hundredth in the next year or two.
pps. The bad news is that Jim is leading the morning walk before the New Year lunch!
